The critically acclaimed podcast Just Ace is back for a third season. The podcast tells the story of Australian music in the 90s. Part history, part documentary and part memoir, the podcast covers the bands, the labels, the people, the media, the politics, the technology and the culture of those times.
Just Ace is written, produced and narrated by Danny Yau. Danny was a teenager through the 90s who went on to work in the music industry. He brings together his loved experience, his professional insights and new research to weave a living history of why what happened still matters.
The podcast launched in October 2022 and has ran for two seasons and 24 episodes. It peaked as the #1 music podcast in Australia. It has had over 250 reviews and a rating of 4.9. Previous epiosdes have covered Triple J, The Big Day Out, Juice Magazine, The Hummingbirds, Ratcat, Frente, The Cruel Sea, silverchair, You Am I and much more.
Season 3 begins 2 November 2024 with another 12 episodes.
It continues the story of how independent music and alternative culture crashed the establishment in the 90s. By the mid 90s, the signing spree was over and labels were trying to take all these interesting bands and get them to produce a radio hit.
Amongst the topics will be the most expensive album made in this era. The biggest loss of money in music in one day. A protest that gets everyone fired. Something lost for decades turning up on Facebook. Unexpected hits. Bands breaking up. Bands that lasted for one gig. The sad, sad deaths of several important people. The most serious episode of the whole series. Episode 34, which was probably my favourite episode to research so far. And some incredible music.

Just Ace – now a best selling book
Season 3 follows the recent release of the Just Ace book. The book adapts the first two seasons of the podcast. It features all the same stories, without having to put on your earbuds. Released in early October, it immediately hit #1 Best Seller in Music History and #5 in Music on Amazon Australia.
