Show notes, links, music and other stuff for Ep 29: Recovery

This week’s episode is named after You Am I’s wonderful single from 1996, down to the missing last letter. Here’s a clip of them performing that very song on Recovery.

Before Recovery

I talked about a few TV shows that led to Recovery. There was a lot more that I cut. It was becoming a history of Australian music television, which would have been interesting, but it was too long. So sorry, Big Gig and The Money Or The Gun or Denton’s channel 7 show and many more. And Countdown. So much Countdown.

But that Countdown Revolution protest was so much a part of the overall story.

The Factory segment is also part of the story, but it’s also a chance to talk about the band God. I love that song so much, that for a while this podcast was going to start in 1988.

Recovery

There are so many clips of Recovery on YouTube. The show lasted pretty much 3 years in its prime. There was so much that was special in every episode.

Here’s John Spencer Blues Explosion, tearing it up.

Green Day’s impromptu performance.

The Recovery special. It’s good, but about a quarter the length of what I want.

You Am I’s very odd performance from the 10:30 Slot, the show that followed Recovery.
